how to connect upstairs tv to downstairs and still be able to change channels and watch both in hd

I had an led hd tv bought me for my bedroom for christmas, but I have no idea how to connect it to the downstairs tv. I am not technical at all and I am hearing horror stores of splitters and magic eyes - sounds like a nightmare. I just want to watch tv in bed and be able to change the channels from there and I would like to watch in hd. Is this all possible and easily done?

Thanks for any advice

Hi as caresome says is good. You could also use a digital AV sender which I have. Prices vary. Thanks Sean

You need a IO link (also called a Magic Eye) that will let you do this, Sky selss them here:

Or high street shops like Maplin, Argos etc will sell them. You probably will need some extra cabling as the supplied cable might not be long enough.

Just to expand on what caesarome has said - first make sure that your new TV has an analogue tuner as well as digital (Freeview). Check in the specs shown in the user manual. If it does, and your Sky box downstairs has an RF2 output socket, you just need a length of coax cable between the RF2 socket and the aerial socket of your upstairs TV. Add a magic eye, and you can control the Sky box from upstairs too. If your Sky box doesn't have an RF2 socket, then you need the IO Link.

If your new TV doesn't have an analogue tuner, you'll need a different solution so please post again.

None of this will allow you to watch in HD. If that's an absolute requirement, you'll need a different  and more expensive solution.
