Re: Will the sky box work with the Xbox one?

My xbox and sky work okay.. Xbox go to tv shows my sky channel.. But at the moment the OneGuide and sky are not compatible so you have to manually change the channel as you normally would.. I hope sky will work with Microsoft to provide the full functionality soon..

Re: RE: Will the sky box work with the Xbox one?

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch Y21leo. I must say, I'm very jealous that you've got an Xbox One, it's certainly top of my Christmas list! :smileyhappy:

You've raised some great suggestions in terms of the OneGuid and it's compatibility, and I'll certainly add these to the list that we have.

We don't currently provide support for the Xbox One at the moment. If this were to change, we'd certainly make an announcement.

If you ever need anything in future, please don't hesitate to post again and I'll be more than happy to help out.

Thanks,

Xbox One does not work propertly with Sky or Virgin Media or any set-top-box outside of North America or Japan.

The reason being that outside of the USA our televisions signals are at 50Hz, whereas the Xbox One games console works at 60Hz … which is the standard for US television.

This means that if you plug your Sky HD box into an Xbox One HDMI input, you will be a picture but it will have a noticeable 'judder' added to it … this is particulary noticeable in camara pans or sports viewing.

I's a fundamental problem and has been documented on several AV and games websites — but there is nothing that can be done about this, which is why Microsoft have declined to comment on it.

In addition, it is becoming aparent that the deinterlacing — where it converts Sky HD's 1080i 50Hz output to 1080p — is poor quality and softens the picture too.

Finally, as currently configured the Xbox One removes surround sound from Sky HD's HDMI signal and downconverts it to stereo.

So in summary, HDMI passthrough: great in USA and rubbish for the rest of the world.

I can not see BSkyB ever helping this happen … why would they?

It's not in their interest for you not to use your EPG and use a different one.

Moreover, if you say to your Xbox One "Xbox, watch The Hobbit" is it going to chose Sky's pay-per-view service or going to select Microsoft's streaming one? Obvious the later, which would hurt Sky's business.

What do they get in return for losing control of their EPG and losing pay-per-view business?

Re: Will the sky box work with the Xbox one?

As someone who is currently watching the TV on the xbox one I can assure you the picture is fine and never judders. Not on sports or movies

Re: Will the sky box work with the Xbox one?

I can assure you that you have a magic box then, because 50Hz to 60Hz conversion creates motion judder.

I would post links, but Google "xbox one judder" and you will see articles in The Guardian and other mainstream press as well was specialist AV and games websites.

Look at yesterday's Guardian Technology sections and article entitled "Xbox One ‘juddering’ plagues UK TV watchers"

Re: Will the sky box work with the Xbox one?

You can force the Xbox One 🎮  to output at 50Hz 😊

Change the display resolution to 720p and answer No the the question that pops up then change back to 1080p, this is from the Xbox forums.

This is a temp work-a-round whilst we wait for the update that Microsoft are working on.

Please note that changing to 50Hz will produce juddering in game cut scenes and you will need to set blu-ray to 24Hz.

Re: Will the sky box work with the Xbox one?

If you force your Xbox One to output 50Hz to watch TV, the games don't work properly until you change it back to 60Hz.

"we wait for the update that Microsoft are working on" you are going to be waiting for a long time, this is not possible to resolve … it's a fundamental design flaw.

But it's OK because it works in USA, which is by far the largest Xbox One market. :smileyhappy:

My games work (BF4 & Forza) with just a small amount of juddering but not during action, blu-ray app already has a 24Hz override so Microsoft already have the ability to allow for non-60Hz output at an app level!
