You can set up Sky Yahoo! Email using either POP3 (Post Office Protocol) or IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) to download messages and view them on your computer using an email program such as Microsoft Outlook.
If you're trying to decide between using POP3 and using IMAP, the comparison below may help, although it depends on which device you’re looking to use Sky Email on.
What's the difference between POP3 and IMAP?
POP3 downloads messages and stores them locally on your computer. IMAP stores messages on the server.
POP3 deletes messages from the server after downloading them on your computer freeing up storage space whereas IMAP leaves them on the server unless you delete them.
IMAP can download messages into specified folders whereas POP3 will download them into the main inbox.
Do I need to update my settings if I'm using a mobile or tablet?
If you are using a mobile or tablet device you will need to ensure that you are using the correct IMAP/POP settings for the Sky Yahoo! Mail service.
Click on the link below for your particular device for help and support in using POP or IMAP with the correct settings as well as how to set up access using the Sky POP/IMAP settings.
Please Note : Before following the steps below, you should first sign in to Sky Yahoo! Mail through your web browser on your computer and delete any emails that you don't want to keep.
Please Note : With the previous configuration of our Sky email service provided by Google some Customer's who accessed and managed their account preferences on multiple devices required to ensure that all devices prefix the logon name with 'recent:' ie if your logon name was email@example.com, changing it to recent:firstname.lastname@example.org enabled this functionality.
If you currently have prefix settings configured to multiple devices and are unable to access your Sky Yahoo! Mail removing the "recent:" prefix mode from your individual device configurations may resolve this issue. To assure multiple device access ensure that all email clients have "leave a copy of messages on the server" enabled.
